ONCE UPON A TIME

Once Upon A Time

The city of Nawalgarh was founded by Nawal Singh, the fourth of the five brothers in 1737 AD on existing village of Kaim Khanis. He built a fort, the Gopinath temple and surrounded the town with a fortification wall.

These can still be seen however in much deteriorated condition. The city prospered and quickly became the focal point of the culture in the region and is still among the biggest towns of Shekhawati. Among its heritage buildings, there is a college with a very British clock tower, and hundreds of painted havelis. Many of the better known merchant families came from here, prominent among them are the Birla’s, Poddars and Murarka’s.

Koolwal Kothi was built by the late Shri Anandilal Hemraj Koolwal in the year 1934. The legacy of Anandilal Hemraj lives on inside the exquisitely designed Haveli and Kothi. He not only made these Havelis but also constructed Dharamshalas, Hospitals, Rent Houses for the needy and also donated a lot of wealth for charity.

The Kothi is made of lime work reflecting the regal times and grandeur of a bygone era. It is here that the gracious living and charming tradition of Nawalgarh still survives in its meticulously preserved artifacts.
